Urban City Renewal (UCR) is a non-profit organization which creates safe, affordable housing and homeownership opportunities for homeless, low and moderate-income families and individuals with disabilities in Washington, DC and Baltimore, Maryland.
Urban City Renewal is committed to enabling disabled individuals and at-risk families with the tools needed to assist them in embarking on their personal journey to self-sufficiency. While UCR provides affordable housing, supportive programs and services, our clients become more productive citizens who take great pride in their new community.
Our plan of action involves purchasing and renovating multi-family residential properties in distressed urban cities. Through extensive refurbishing programs, renovations and expansions, we greatly improve the condition of these properties and fully restore them to affordable, independent housing areas. In doing so, we revitalize the inner-city neighborhoods and build value into the neighboring communities in which these properties are located. Hence, we truly live up to our name and we are proud to call ourselves Urban City Renewal.
UCR is building a Cancer Respite and Wellness Center in the heart of Washington, DC. Getting the right care sometimes means cancer patients must travel far away from home, often to a cancer treatment facility in another city, which increases their emotional and financial burden during what is already a challenging time. We want to make this difficult situation easier for cancer patients and their caregivers through free, temporary housing facilities for cancer patients who are undergoing cancer treatment.
Enabling clients to empower their life as well as maximizing their individual opportunities is our primary concern. We assist participants in smoothing their transition to independence by providing affordable rental housing to individuals with disabilities such as: Mental Illness, Cancer, HIV/AIDS, etc. When requested, we assist participants with their independent living skills, such as: housekeeping, money management, social and interpersonal skills.
Supportive housing is permanent, affordable housing linked to health, mental health, employment, and other support services. Supportive housing has proven to be a cost-effective way to end homelessness for people who face the most complex challenges. Supportive housing not only improves the life of its residents but also has the potential to generate significant public savings.
