A FEW WORDS ABOUT US

Urban City Renewal is a private, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization dedicated to enabling children, youth, adults and families  to  empower themselves as well as maximizing their individual opportunities while providing independent living and human supportive programs and services. UCR offers a continuum of affordable housing opportunities from multifamily rental housing, to transitional housing, leading to affordable homeownership with the assistance of volunteer home repair programs.  By reinvesting  in people and rebuilding distressed neighborhoods,  we  aspire to create hope, create jobs, and generate significant public savings while we are revitalizing our communities.

We serve the Washington, DC and  Baltimore, Maryland areas to help people who are living with disabilities such as Cancer, HIV/AIDS, Mental Illnesses, etc. to live independently in affordable housing as well as provide supportive services to at-risk children, youth and families.

1. National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) Headquartered in Washington DC. NLIHC is a national organization that is solely dedicated to ending America's affordable housing crisis. Through advocacy and education, NLIHC seeks to improve the public's knowledge of low income housing issues and increase its support for progressive low income housing policy. http://www.nlihc.org

2. Housing Associations of Nonprofit Developers (HAND)  HAND was formed to support a professional community of housing providers in order to increase the supply of affordable housing in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.  http://www.handhousing.org

3. Habitat for Humanity  Since its founding Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 150,000 houses for families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. http://www.habit.org

5. So Others Might Eat (SOME)  SOME is  an interfaith, community-based organization existing to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. They meet the immediate daily needs of the people they serve with food, clothing, and health care. They help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness.  http://www.some.org
